Zendaya responds to a meme featuring all the female leads from ‘Spider-Man’ films, followed by their roles as tennis stars. Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, and Zendaya have all taken on prominent roles in ‘Spider-Man’ films before transitioning to portray tennis players in major motion pictures.
During their appearance on the April 23 episode of Good Morning America alongside co-stars Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, Zendaya, 27, reacted to a meme showcased by the show’s co-anchor Robin Roberts. The meme highlighted the pattern of each lead actress in live-action Spider-Man films subsequently portraying a tennis player on the big screen.
Zendaya Continues a Cinematic Lineage
- Zendaya acknowledged the meme, expressing uncertainty about its significance, jokingly suggesting it might be a prophecy she needs to fulfill. She found the coincidence amusing and remarked that it seemed to have worked out well for all the actresses involved.
- In the Spider-Man films, Zendaya succeeded Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone as Peter Parker’s primary love interest. Dunst, 41, previously played Mary Jane Watson in the early 2000s Spider-Man trilogy, while Stone, 35, portrayed Gwen Stacy in the 2012 and 2014 installments. Coincidentally, Dunst portrayed a tennis player in the romantic comedy Wimbledon shortly after her role in Spider-Man 2. Stone, post her stint as Gwen Stacy, took on the role of legendary tennis player Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes.
